Urbanista Lisbon – On the ear

Urbanista Lisbon – On the ear

Urbanista makes eye-catching audio products, from in-ears to headphones. For example, the Urbanista Miami was recently discussed: headphones that charge via the built-in solar cell. These Urbanista Lisbon bluetooth earphones stand out in a different way, because they are incredibly small. You can read more about it in this Urbanista Lisbon review.

The Urbanista Lisbon earphones immediately stand out, especially because of the colors in which they are available. I got the mint green version and the ears are also available in bright red and light yellow. Also just in black. The earphones are also less than fifty euros, which is an accessible price.

Most wireless in-ears have a design where a stem protrudes from the ear, with the AirPods being the most famous example. There are also many earphones that sit in the ear like a cap. These Urbanista Lisbon fall into the second category. But, just like the AirPods, they do not have a rubber tip that goes into your ear. That makes the earpiece exceptionally small. In order to still be a bit stuck in the ear, there is a small round bracket made of rubber that hooks behind the ear cup.

Sound experience Urbanista Lisbon

The striking design of the Urbanista Lisbon does have its own unique features. For example, the earphones are very comfortable, you hardly notice that you are wearing the earphones due to the low weight. But they don’t stay in place very firmly, which makes the ears not so suitable for use during activities.

The rubber tips of many ears ensure that the ear canal is closed. This is also necessary, for example, for the operation of noise reduction. This is not so necessary with the Urbanista Lisbon, since the headset does not have noise reduction. But rubber tips also provide sound insulation, so you get the most out of the small speakers that earphones are equipped with. That sound insulation is missing, which means that the sound does sound very tinny. There is also little experience, the sound is too flat, so that bass tones and sound detail are insufficiently audible.

The built-in microphones for phone calls also seem to suffer a bit from the design. With ambient noise or wind, you will soon notice that you cannot be heard as well.

Despite the small size, the ears have a lot of stamina

battery life

Small earphones, small charging box… Small batteries. But you can easily overlook that. Charged Urbanista Lisbon earphones last about eight and a half hours. That’s enough for a long flight or a working day. That is quite impressive for such small ears, perhaps the fact that they connect via the latest bluetooth version (5.2) can contribute to this. The lack of playback modes such as ambient sound and noise reduction also helps, of course. These functions generally use significantly more energy.

The charging box is also pleasantly small and can be placed in your pocket next to your smartphone. However, the box does not have a very high capacity. Enough to fully charge both earbuds twice. You charge the box itself via the USB-C port. Wireless charging is not possible.

Service

The Urbanista Lisbon earphones are also very basic, which is not surprising given the price. There is no waterproof housing or app support for, for example, updating the firmware of the earphones, adjusting the sound adjustment or changing the tap control of the earphones.

This tap control therefore remains one tap for volume adjustment, two for play or pause and three for the next or previous track.

Conclusion: buy Urbanista Lisbon?

The Urbanista Lisbon headset suffers a bit from its design. Although the earphones are very comfortable, they are not sturdy and the sound quality is not good. There is no app or noise reduction, but a good battery life. Although the earphones are very accessible, it is better to invest a few tens more in other bluetooth in-ears.
