The import of used electric cars has more than doubled in the first nine months of 2020 compared to the same period in 2019, according to figures from VWE Automotive. The most popular is the Audi e-tron, followed by the Renault Zoe.
Over the first nine months of this year, 2,694 EVs were brought to our country. This is mainly because the range of electric cars on the Dutch used car market is not yet very large. However, the demand for EVs continues to rise, mainly thanks to the exemption from mrb, low operating costs and for the business driver an additional tax rate of 8 percent this year. Remarkably enough, the relatively expensive Audi e-tron with 481 units is the leader of the list of most imported EVs. The Renault Zoe follows him at some distance with 318 copies. This is followed by the Hyundai Kona (273 cars), Volkswagen E-Golf (255 cars) and BMW i3 (176 cars).
A total of 164,057 cars were imported this year, 0.6 percent less than in 2019. Of course, this is mainly due to the corona crisis, but the market has been recovering considerably, especially in recent months. In September, for example, total imports were 37 percent higher than the same month in 2019, the outlook for October is also favorable, according to VWE Automotive. The figures show that the share of EVs in total imports is still relatively small at 1.6 percent. The diesel engine is losing ground with a market share that has shrunk from 14.6 to 9.2 percent. The Volkswagen Polo is the most imported used car with 7,652 cars. Another car that stands out in the list is the Nissan Qashqai, of which no fewer than 3,550 copies were imported this year. Compared to 2019, this is an increase of more than 35 percent.
