Van will arrive soon: BYD’s Denza is really coming to Europe

BYD is once again showing the Denza D9 in Europe, this time in – you guessed it – Geneva. That has happened before, but there is still news to report: Denza is officially coming to Europe.

There were already all kinds of reasons to assume that BYD would also make the move to Europe with Denza. The luxurious Denza D9-MPV not only appeared in the database of a European patent office, but also next to our very own office in Hoofddorp. Moreover, BYD previously showed the Denza D9 at a European trade fair, albeit in Munich, Germany. Now the importer confirms what we already knew: Denza is coming to Europe.

And that’s it for now. We don’t know when, nor which model and to which countries. The name ‘Denza’ has been buzzing around for more than ten years, because the Daimler Denza was presented in 2014. At the time, this was still a collaborative project between BYD and Mercedes’ parent company. The first car was a kind of strange sedan version of the Mercedes B-class, but electric. We were even able to take it on the road, but we never heard anything about it again.

Mercedes has now virtually withdrawn from Denza, but BYD still sees merit in this (sub) brand. Although Denza also has other models, the D9 appears most often. It is a luxurious super-MPV of the kind that is very big in Japan and apparently also in China, but is still in its infancy in Europe. Lexus is going to make an attempt here with the LM, although not in the Netherlands. Volvo does not yet see a market for the similar EM90 throughout Europe. Whether Denza dares to present the D9 to the Dutch or will approach it differently, only time will tell.
