In October, Tesla introduced off-peak variable charging rates for all Tesla-only Superchargers. The brand is now rolling out its new off-peak variable rates to all Supercharger locations.
Tesla is trying to make charging during non-peak times more attractive by introducing variable charging rates for these off-peak hours. In October, Tesla already rolled out the reduced and variable off-peak hour rate to its Superchargers where you can only charge with a Tesla. Now the brand is expanding the off-peak variable charging rate to all Supercharger locations.
Those who charge their electric car at a Tesla Supercharger station pay a lower rate during peak hours than outside. Initially, the reduced charging rates at the selected stations only applied between ten o’clock in the evening and six o’clock in the morning, but that is also changing. Tesla turns it around and from now on only charges peak rates at all Supercharger stations between four in the afternoon and eight in the evening – when the demand for power is highest. According to Tesla, a kWh at a Supercharger costs an average of €0.49 during off-peak hours and €0.56 during peak times. Tesla indicates that it will adjust the Supercharger rates more often to price developments in the energy markets.
