BMW back as a customer

A boost for VDL Groep. The Dutch company has again found a customer in BMW, but the industrial company will not produce cars for that brand. VDL Groep will, however, assemble battery modules for the brand in Born.
VDL Groep has been looking for a new client for some time to get its car factory running at full steam again in the coming years. Nothing will change in that search for the time being. Yet the Dutch company has found a new customer. VDL Groep will assemble battery modules for BMW Group.
The long-term order from BMW Group will provide the Mobility Innovation Center (MIC) of VDL Groep in Born with a lot of work until 2035. Through that year, it will assemble approximately 125,000 battery modules for BMW’s aftersales network. VDL indicates that it is also in discussions with other potential clients for the assembly of complete battery packs.
The Mobility Innovation Center in Born is currently preparing to start assembly. The first battery modules should leave the factory gates in about a year. The assignment provides employment to the MIC for ‘several dozen’ employees. The battery modules are assembled in two production lines in a new production hall. Assembling the battery modules takes up about 10 percent of production capacity.
