VDL Nedcar and trade unions reach an agreement

For a long time, VDL Nedcar was the stage of discontent-driven strikes, and more bad news followed at the beginning of June when VDL Nedcar announced that it would scrap almost half of all workplaces. Trade unions and VDL have now struck a blow on a new social plan for employees in the car factory in Born, ANP reports.

On Tuesday evening, trade unions FNV, CNV and De Unie sat around the table for a long time to arrive at a new social plan for VDL Nedcar employees.

The trade unions and VDL Nedcar have agreed on matters such as severance pay. The severance payment for the first fifteen years is normally one third of the monthly salary per year of service, but will be multiplied by a factor of 1.9. If you have worked at Nedcar for more than fifteen years, the factor is 2.7. It has also been agreed that employees whose employment contract has ended can only voluntarily get a job elsewhere in the company. If that does not work, we look for (suitable) work in the region as much as possible.

Due to the various strikes in May, the production backlog has risen to 6,000 cars. ANP reports that it has been agreed that the staff of VDL Nedcar will work overtime to make up for that backlog.

The agreement will be presented to the members on Thursday, after which it will be official. Of the 3,950 employees at Nedcar, 1,800 of them will stop on 1 November. This concerns 1,000 permanent employees and 800 temporary employees.
