VDL Nedcar is in talks with the German ElectricBrands to take over the production of the Evetta and the Xbus. Two small electric cars with a retro jacket. VDL Nedcar also wants to change its range of tasks somewhat.

VDL Nedcar has still not found a new client for when the deal with BMW comes to an end next year. It has also been quiet for a while when it comes to conversations with potentially interested parties, but that is now coming to an end. VDL Nedcar states that it is in talks with ElectricBrands to build the Evetta and Xbus. The Evetta is a modern electric reincarnation of the BMW Isetta, while the Xbus is a compact electric passenger or company van with a touch of Volkswagen T3 about it. With its production, VDL Nedcar would serve a much smaller market: ElectricBrands has received 16,000 orders for the Xbus, but only ‘over 1,000’ for the Evetta.

VDL Nedcar shows that it is responding to the increasingly uncertain future as a car factory by ‘going through a transition from an independent car manufacturer to a broad partner in sustainable mobility’. In concrete terms, this means that VDL Nedcar wants to work on new mobility solutions in its ‘Mobility Innovation Centre’ and that it will provide more support to VDL’s sister companies. Car production therefore no longer seems to be the main goal, but one of the three pillars of VDL Nedcar. The company from Born says that it wants to work on the assembly of vehicles for several different clients at the same time. It doesn’t stop with a possible deal with ElectricBrands, if all goes well.
