View weather forecast on weather apps

We used to see on the news or in the newspaper what the weather would be that day. Nowadays, people just grab the smartphone or tablet for this. With a weather app on the device, you get a comprehensive weather forecast. Most apps not only provide a forecast per day, but even per hour. So you know exactly what to expect when you set out. In this article, we’ll discuss different weather apps.

iPhone and iPad (with iOS 13 or later) have the Weather app by default. This app shows the hourly weather forecast for your current location. For example, it indicates how hot it is per hour. And also whether the sun is shining, it is cloudy or whether it is raining. Below that is briefly the forecast for the rest of the week. Scroll further down to learn more about today. At the bottom are, among other things, the wind direction and speed, humidity, UV index and when the sun rises and sets.

It is also possible to add extra places, so that you can always view the forecast of these locations.

• Within the app, tap the three-bar icon at the bottom right .
• Tap the circle with plus sign .
• Enter the city name and tap Search. If necessary, tap the appropriate suggestion.
• The new place name is in the overview. Tap the city name to see the weather forecast.

From now on, switch between the places by swiping left and right.

Most Android devices have a so-called widget with the weather forecast. A small weather forecast will appear on the Home screen of the device. Tap the message to get more detailed information. The appearance of this widget varies by device type and version of Android.

The best-known weather app is probably Buienradar. It was one of the first apps to accurately indicate when it was going to rain. When opening the app, a large map of the Netherlands is immediately displayed on which any rain clouds move. But the app has many more radars in addition to a rainfall radar. Such as the drizzle radar, pollen radar and sun radar. Switch via the icon with the different layers between the different radars. Then tap on the desired radar.

Buienradar also provides a 14-day forecast and sends active notifications. For example, you will receive a notification if rain is expected at your location or receive a daily weather report. By default, the app provides the above information for your current location. Want the weather forecast for another place? Then tap the current location at the top. Type the city name and tap a suggestion.

Buienradar is available for free in both the Play Store (Android) as the App Store (iOS/iPadOS). However, there are advertisements in the app. In order to no longer have this in view, you must take out a subscription for € 2.29 per year (price February 2020).

Another well-known weather app is Weeronline. Just like Buienradar, this app is full of information. Weeronline provides the weather forecast for the next hour, the next 48 hours or the next two weeks. The app also has a rainfall radar. That way you won’t be faced with any surprises. Special tiles provide information about the influence of the weather on hay fever, rheumatism and migraine.

In the ‘My Places’ tab, you can add places to quickly check the weather of your favorite locations.

• Tap the tab My places.
• Tap on Find a place or on the blue circle with plus sign .
• Type the city name and tap the appropriate suggestion.
• Tap the city name to view the weather forecast.

Weeronline is available for free in both the Play Store (Android) as the App Store (iOS/iPadOS). The app does show ads. With a subscription of € 2.49 per year, the advertisements no longer show (price February 2020).

Finally, we will discuss the app of the Royal Netherlands Meteorological Institute (KNMI). The KNMI came relatively late with a weather app. But of course the app of the national weather institute should not be missing. The app is not always user-friendly, but it is very accurate. Another advantage of the app is that it is ad-free. At the top is the current temperature, wind speed and wind direction. Below that is a map with a weather forecast. The KNMI app then contains the weather forecast per hour and per day. It is also possible to receive weather warnings per region.

By default, shows the weather forecast for the current location. To add a new place:

• Tap the three dashes icon at the top left .
• Tap on Add a place.
• Type the city name and tap the appropriate suggestion.
• On an iPhone or iPad, tap OK.
• Switch between the places by swiping left or right.

KNMI Weather is available in the Play Store (Android) and the App Store (iOS/iPadOS).
