Where Europe is slowly but surely the hardest hit behind us, China has long been recovering from the major corona crisis. That is reflected in the sales figures, according to Volkswagen.
That says Volkswagens Chinese head of sales Stephan Woellenstein to news agency Reuters. April has a less rigorous decline compared to the period from January to March. Over the first three months of this year, Chinese sales fell by about 40 percent compared to the same period last year. In April, the red numbers will be around 15 to 20 percent.
“If this trend continues, we will reach last year’s sales numbers again around June,” says Woellenstein. Volkswagen recorded comparable declines in Europe and America. Since the virus broke out there later, the hardest blows now fall there. Volkswagen is already seeing sales fall by 44.6 percent in Western Europe, and 42 percent in North America. The figures for this month have yet to be announced.
