Resolve backlog

The long delivery times due to the global chip shortage will probably be a thing of the past in the course of this year. That is what Volkswagen expects, at least. It thus shares in earlier positive outlook for 2023.
It seems that the chip shortage that has been plaguing the car industry since 2020 is a thing of the past this year. This was recently stated by the American trade association CTA. Volkswagen shares that expectation. According to the German manufacturer, it looks like the problem will be over in the course of this year. However, part of the production in 2023 will still be affected by the chip shortage.
Volkswagen says it sees “steady improvement” in the supply of microchips and expects car production to stabilize later in the year. Or will this also lead to more normal delivery times this year? “We are doing our utmost to shorten delivery times for our customers even further and to reduce the high order book as quickly as possible.”
AutoWeek’s tour of Dutch importers last autumn showed that in some cases the delivery time for new cars is not infrequently six months or longer. In addition to the chip shortage, other disruptions in the supply of parts played (and are still playing) a role. Consider, for example, the production of cable harnesses in Ukraine, which was affected by the war there.
