Now resolved

Volkswagen suffered a huge IT failure in Germany on Wednesday, which meant that no cars could be built for a while. It has now been resolved again.
The influence of IT on daily life and industries is increasing. This is also evident from what happened at Volkswagen on Wednesday. An IT malfunction shut down many of the automaker’s German factories on Wednesday. Production can now start again, a spokesperson for the company told the German news agency DPA.
Due to the disruption in data traffic, car production stopped in Wolfsburg, Emden, Zwickau and Osnabrück. Parts factories in Kassel, Braunschweig and Salzgitter were also affected by the outage. “The IT infrastructure problems in Volkswagen’s network were resolved during the night and the network is functioning stably again,” Volkswagen said.
Subsidiary Audi also reported problems on Wednesday. Business newspaper Handelsblatt wrote that car dealers and an American factory in Chattanooga were also affected. Volkswagen has no indications that the malfunction is the result of a cyber attack.
