Volkswagen Golf GTI TCR stretches the legs

The new Volkswagen Golf is already on the market this year in various sporty variants. Of course, the Golf GTI is back, but the superlative, the TCR, is almost ready.

As with the previous generation of the Volkswagen Golf, we can look forward to the arrival of the GTI TCR. Anyone who just thinks a GTI, but thinks an R is going a step too far, will be catered for. The TCR, which we have here for the first time, takes a step further away from the GTI in terms of power than before. The difference is no longer 45 hp, but 55 hp. The GTI TCR gets 300 hp from the same 2.0 TSI as the GTI. Where a manual gearbox is available in the GTI, the TCR has to do as standard with the seven-speed DSG automatic transmission.

Besides more power, there is of course more going on. The TCR is lower than the GTI and has a stiffer chassis. Furthermore, the large brake discs that have to pacify the front-wheel drive are perforated. The external differences are relatively brief. The air scoops in the front bumper look slightly more robust and there is a larger rear spoiler on the back of the car. The TCR also has oval tailpipes, where the regular GTI has round ones. After the summer, the GTI TCR will make its market debut. If the price-wise a similar story with the previous generation, you have to count on an additional cost of about € 7,000 compared to the GTI. It is not yet known what it will cost. The previous GTI TCR was from just over half a ton.
