Volkswagen Golf R Variant caught at the Nürburgring

Volkswagen Golf R Variant caught at the Nürburgring

Anyone in the market for a sporty station wagon with plenty of power should keep a close eye on Volkswagen’s delivery range this year. Just like its hatchback brother, the Golf Variant gets a fierce R version and it is that Golf R Variant that was captured on film around the Nürburgring in a bright blue jacket today.

At the end of 2020, Volkswagen added the Golf R to the Dutch delivery range, the stronger all-wheel drive brother of the Golf GTI. As was the case with the previous generation Volkswagen Golf, the new Golf Variant will also receive such an R-variant. On this set of spy photos, that sporty station wagon can be seen better than ever from all angles.

The Volkswagen Golf R Variant, like its hatchback brother, gets a 320 hp and 420 Nm strong 2.0 TSI, a machine that puts its powers on the road via a DSG transmission and 4Motion all-wheel drive. The Golf R thus sprints to a speed of 100 km / h in 4.7 seconds and this Golf R Variant will hardly be inferior to that. The Golf Variant in these photos reveals its true nature with many things. Not only are there four R-distinctive tailpipes at the bottom of the rear, the car is also already packed with sportier bumper work and large wheels behind which hides extra powerful braking.

We expect the new Golf R Variant to be on the market in the second half of this year. Incidentally, more R news is on the way. There are indications that Volkswagen comes with an extra potent Golf R, a 334 hp top version that is therefore one step above the regular Golf R.
