Volkswagen halts production of electric cars at two factories

Production of electric cars is temporarily halted at two Volkswagen factories. This time it does not have to do with the demand for the cars, but with the availability of electric motors.

Volkswagen is forced to temporarily suspend production of electric cars at its factories in Zwickau and Emden. That reports Reuters. This concerns the production of the Volkswagens ID4 and ID5 and the Audi Q4 e-tron in Zwickau and in Emden it concerns the Volkswagens ID4 and ID7. Work in Zwickau has been halted for about three weeks, in Emden things are going according to plan DPA for a three-day break next week.

Unlike before, when production was scaled back due to disappointing demand, supply is now a problem. According to Volkswagen, there is a shortage of electric motors, because the factory in Kassel can currently only produce them to a limited extent. It is not known why production is at a low level.
