Volkswagen highlights Viloran

With the disappearance of the Touran, Volkswagen no longer has any MPV in the delivery range in the Netherlands. But on the other side of the world, Volkswagen is expanding its portfolio with a space giant. Last year, Volkswagen already showed the first photos of the Viloran and now the brand is releasing more information about that newcomer.

The Viloran is a brand new MPV that will be produced especially for the Chinese market by the SAIC-Volkswagen joint venture. The newcomer measures 5.35 meters in length, is 1.98 meters wide and 1.78 meters high. The distance between the front and rear axles is a hefty 3.18 meters. These dimensions make the Viloran a lot bigger than the well-known but no longer available Sharan, a car that is 4.85 meters long. It is striking that the Viloran with two sliding doors is just a few centimeters lower than the 1.81 meter high Sharan and that, together with its longer car length, gives it a fairly stretched appearance. The fact that the Viloran is a big boy is evident from the fact that the car is no less than 21 centimeters longer than the Routan, a Canadian-produced rebadded Chrysler Town & Country / Dodge Caravan that disappeared from the North American market in 2014.

The Viloran is on the well-known MQB base of the Volkswagen Group and therefore also has access to well-known engines. For example, the MPV is available with a 2.0 TSI that has two power variants. Volkswagen already supplies those 186 hp and 220 hp strong four-cylinders in China in the Teramont, the Chinese version of the Atlas. Switching is in all cases with a DSG automatic transmission with seven gears.

The Viloran makes its public debut as a seven-seater in which the chairs are divided into three rows of seats. The second row of seats consists of two separate seats and behind the third row of seats is a luggage space that swallows up to 436 liters of stuff. The interior of the Viloran also provides few major surprises. The complete dashboard appears to come from the aforementioned Teramont.

In China, the Viloran takes on ballrooms like the Honda Odyssey and the Buick GL8. The starting price in China is approximately € 45,000.
