Driven more than 100 km further than the WLTP range of the electric car
Volkswagen ID.3
Volkswagen can be proud: the new electric model ID.3 has driven 531 km on one charge of electricity. That is even more than 100 km above the official WLTP value.
Some records are very special. Like the range record achieved this week with the ID.3, Volkswagens new electric car. While the official WLTP range is 420 km, this car was driven 531 km on a single charge. Normally, the WLTP value is about 20 to 25 percent above the range to be achieved in practice. Official consumption (14.5 to 15.4 kWh / 100 km) thus fell to only 10.9 kWh / 100 km.
The route led from the ID.3 factory in Zwickau (in the former East Germany) to Shaffhausen in Northern Switzerland. The car was one of the first series-produced ID.3 introductory versions 1st Pro Performance with a 58 kWh battery pack. 44 percent of the time was driven on highways, the rest of the time on ordinary streets and roads.
Even long journeys are no problem
However, we should note that driver Felix Egolf – what’s in a name ?! – is the champion in so-called ‘hypermiling’: driving with techniques that maximize energy efficiency and minimize consumption. Egolf kept taking his foot off the ‘accelerator’ to be able to ‘sail’. He also did not drive too fast. The rider was very satisfied: “With its high voltage battery, efficient drivetrain and fast charging options, even long journeys are no problem.”
Can be ordered from 37,990 euros
The Volkswagen ID.3 can already be ordered from the VW dealer in the ‘limited edition’ 1st, from 37,990 euros. It has 204 hp electric power, 310 Nm of torque and the 58 kWh battery pack. Episodes begin in September. The full model range will follow after the introduction model. The ID.3 entry-level version with a range of up to 330 km (according to WLTP) is expected to receive a price below 36,000 euros in the Netherlands.
