Volkswagen ID Buzz in pictures

No car has had a longer run-up than Volkswagen’s retro van. As early as 2001, the Germans showed the Microbus, which in retrospect looks quite similar to the end product. ‘New’ is, of course, that it concerns an electrical product from the ID series, although we have actually known this since 2017. Anyway, we have not gotten a better look at the ID Buzz until now.

These images, cut from a video on Twitter, mainly fill in the details of the van we got in front of the lens earlier. For example, we see a set of optically connected headlight units, of the type that we also encounter on the ID3 and ID4. The logo placed in the middle is nice and big, as can be expected from a vehicle that should remind of the T1. Above the ‘bonnet’, which is of course not a bonnet, one windshield wiper peeks out. We therefore suspect that the Buzz will get two separate copies, as we once saw a lot with MPVs.

Unlike the T1 and T2, the windscreen is quite clearly set back. The front passengers are therefore a lot further back than in the original vans, where they, together with the front bumper, were responsible for the first confrontation with a possible obstacle. With the ID Buzz, the door is therefore logically completely behind the front axle, as we think is sensible these days. The flanks are taut, the windows are visually one whole. Of course, the ID-Buzz has sliding doors, because that is historically justified and practical.

The ID Buzz will be available as a passenger car version and also as an orderer under the ID Cargo name. After the introduction of this combination, Volkswagen suddenly has three medium-sized vans in its range: the old Transporter, the new Multivan for passenger transport and the ID combination as an electric alternative for both.
