Volkswagen recently introduced a sporty label for its electric models: GTX. The ID4 is the first, but certainly not the last of the ID family to get a GTX sauce poured on it. None other than Volkswagen CEO Ralf Brandstätter can already be seen next to a prototype of the ID3 GTX: the ID.X.
Think of Volkswagen’s new GTX label as what the three-letter combinations GTI and GTD are for cars with petrol and diesel engines respectively. The GTX label therefore debuted on a sportier variant of the ID4, the ID4 GTX. Volkswagen has already indicated that the yet to be launched ID5, the ‘coupé brother’ of the ID4, will be the next electric Volkswagen to get a GTX version. That the ID3 would probably also get a GTX variant, was actually also certain from the outset. Volkswagen CEO Ralf Brandstätter is in any case already testing a sporty GTX version of that electric hatchback.
Volkswagen ID4 GTX
The more powerful version of the ID3 is not yet called ID3 GTX, after all, it is still a prototype. The ID3 in these photos in a matte dark gray tone still listens to the name ID.X. The ID.X is built on strong light metal and is not only decorated on the outside, but also on the inside with a fluorescent color. In the interior we see, among other things, sports seats, apparently covered with Alcantara.
The ID.X is basically an ID3 with a 62 kWh battery, although that package has been replaced in this prototype by the 77 kWh variant that also serves in the ID4 GTX. Thanks to two electric motors, the four-wheel drive ID.X is more powerful than the ID4 GTX. Where the ID4 GTX has 299 hp, the ID.X kicks it to 333 hp. The ID.X thus thunders to a speed of 100 km / h in 5.3 seconds. Just as striking: the ID.X is no less than 200 kilos lighter than the ID3 on which it is based. There is even a real drift mode. It is not yet known when the ID.3 will get a GTX version. The ID5 and its GTX variant must be introduced first.
