The electric Volkswagen ID3 is now also available with a smaller battery pack. The Pure battery obviously has a positive effect on the price, aided by new trim levels.
The Pure battery of the Volkswagen ID3 has a capacity of 45 kWh, good for a WLTP range of 351 kilometers. In comparison, all ID3s delivered so far have the Pro battery, which provides 425 km of range with 58 kWh.
The smaller battery has major consequences for the starting price. Where the basic version previously had to yield € 37,890, an ID3 is now yours for € 32,190. Those versions are not comparable one to one, because Volkswagen immediately introduces a number of new equipment levels. For example, there is now a nameless basic version, of course the car that belongs to the above amount. Such an entry-level ID3 has adaptive cruise control, automatic air conditioning and lane assist, but no seat heating or keyless access, for example. In addition, the interior is significantly simpler and the car can only charge with 50 kW.
The latter is an important difference with the City, which should be able to reach 100 kW from € 34,790. This option is available as a separate option on the basic ID3, at an additional cost of € 649. In addition, the City comes standard with a Comfort Package and Multimedia Package, which include seat and steering wheel heating, an extra storage compartment with USB connections and a more extensive multimedia system. The ID3 with Pure battery is also available as Style. That version offers, among other things, light metal (yes, the rest has steel), a nicer decorated interior, more assistance systems and an extra climate zone and costs € 39,390.
58 kWh
The variant with the already known, larger Pro battery will also have to deal with new versions. The range now consists of the Life, the Business, the Tech and the Max. That means that the range is rounded off at the top, because until now the ID3 was only available as Life and Business outside the 1ST versions. The Tech and Max are reminiscent of the richer Plus and Max versions of the introductory version 1ST, but of course do without its signature stickers on the C-pillar.
Compared to the Business, the ID3 Tech offers a panoramic roof, a better insulated windscreen and a blind spot sensor. Also, only from this equipment level is the audio system with a still not lavish six speakers standard, where all versions below, including all versions of the ‘Pure’, have to do with four copies. The Max lives up to its name and gets almost everything that is possible on an ID3. An exception to that rule is the 20-inch alloy that was standard on the 1ST Max. On the ‘normal’ Max that costs € 1,141 extra. The heat pump, which should extend the driving range in winter, is optional on all models. A heat pump for a Volkswagen ID3 costs € 1,258. Finally, there is an extra sporty interior, which is only available on the Max and costs € 1,205.
What is special is that the versions of the 58 kWh ID3 are all called differently than the versions of the ID3 with 45 kWh. A City is always equipped with the Pure battery, a Life always with the Pro battery. The equipment also really differs here and there. A ‘bare’ ID3, ID3 City or ID3 Style is always equipped with the Pure battery, while the ID3 in Life, Business, Tech, or Max trim always receives the Pro battery.
