Electric alternative for Passat Variant

Volkswagen ID7 Variant: electric station wagon caught

This year, Volkswagen will park the ID7 in the Dutch showrooms. That electric alternative to the Passat is currently only presented as a sedan, but there is also a spacious Variant in the pipeline. The new Volkswagen ID7 Variant has now appeared in public almost without a sticker.

Electric station wagons are still a relative rarity. MG will soon have the 5 Electric and Opel and Peugeot park the already presented Astra Electric Sports Tourer and e-308 SW in the Dutch showrooms. BMW comes with an i5 Touring based on the next generation 5 series and Volkswagen also has ears for an electric station wagon. It will actually come. The Volkswagen ID7 will also be available next year as an ID7 Variant and AutoWeek can already show you that electric mule.

It was no surprise that Volkswagen would come up with an electric station wagon. Even before Volkswagen previewed the now presented ID7, the Wolfsburgers were already hinting at such an electric model. After all, VW presented the ID Space Vizzion at the LA Auto Show in 2019. The production version of this leads to the ID7 Variant.

The Volkswagen ID7 in sedan form is almost 20 centimeters longer than the Passat, so the ID7 Variant is also slightly larger than the Passat Variant. Thanks to the wheelbase of almost 3 meters, the ID7 Variant promises to be quite spacious in any case. Whether the luggage compartment is just as practical in shape as that of the Passat Variant? That remains to be seen. The ID7 Variant has a much flatter rear window than its more traditional motorized alternative.

Volkswagen specifies a WLTP range of about 700 kilometers for the ID7 Pro S. He squeezes that range from an 86-kWh battery. The ID7 will soon also be available with a 77-kWh battery pack.
