Volkswagen is building a new factory for a new EV brand

Volkswagen will soon build a new factory where it will produce models of the new EV brand Scout. For the new production facility, the manufacturer therefore does not join another party.

In the middle of last year, it was announced that Volkswagen would introduce a new EV brand in the United States: Scout. Initially, it seemed that Volkswagen would enter into a partnership with an external party for the production of Scout models. Volkswagen is said to be in talks with the Taiwanese Foxconn, among others, but the manufacturer has decided not to. This is evident from reports from the German Automobilwoche.

Volkswagen would build the Scout factory itself, although it is not yet known where it will be located. Volkswagen’s Scout comes first with an electric pickup and a relatively utilitarian electric off-roader.

The Scout brand derives its name from the International Scout, an all-terrain vehicle of the International Harvester brand, which was mainly a manufacturer of agricultural vehicles and trucks. The first Scout appeared on the American market in the early 1960s and was produced over two generations until 1980. Volkswagen acquired the Scout brand name when its truck and bus division Traton acquired American Navistar in 2020. Scout doesn’t seem to be coming to Europe for now. It is not the first time that a Volkswagen Group brand is not coming to Europe. For example, the Volkswagen Group carries the Jetta sub-brand exclusively in China.
