Volkswagen is counting down to the introduction of Golf R.

A little while longer and then the time has come: Volkswagen will pull the curtain on the new Golf R. On November 4, the brand will throw out a final teaser, on which the R logo can be seen. In addition, a corner of the veil is lifted about the drive technology of the new über-Golf.

After the unveiling of the Golf GTI and GTI Clubsport, the Golf R is now eager to make its appearance behind the scenes. For the latest teaser image, a close-up of the boot lid has been taken, showing the ‘R’ logo below Volkswagen’s. Predictable? Absolutely, because the R-versions of the Arteon and Touareg already had this. Furthermore, Volkswagen already provides some information about the powertrain. Naturally, the hot hatch has four-wheel drive, which is controlled by a computer that is also linked to the electronic limited-slip differential and Dynamic Chassis Control. Volkswagen promises that partly because of this, the new Golf R drives better than was previously the case.

Furthermore, it remains a guess as to the details. What is under the hood is not yet formally known, but it is obvious that the 2.0 TSI that Audi uses for the S3 and that Volkswagen supplies in the Arteon R. In the Arteon, this power source delivers 320 hp and 420 Nm of torque. The Audi has to do with 10 hp and 20 Nm less. However, there is already a good idea of what the end result will look like. In principle, those photos leave little to the imagination. The R gets larger ventilation openings in the front bumper and a thick diffuser with four tailpipes at the rear. There is also a generous roof spoiler screwed onto the boot lid, which is just out of the picture in the teaser image.
