When Volkswagen brings a sporty model to the SEMA Show in Las Vegas, it is more than once a Jetta. This time too, Volkswagen will bring a special variant of that model to the American spoiler party. This is the Volkswagen Jetta GLI Performance Concept.

Volkswagen of America, the North American branch of Volkswagen, does have a thing for the Jetta. Volkswagen has set a speed record on the salt flats in Bonneville with the model and more than once pulls out an extra sporty version from the top hat for the annual SEMA Show. This year is no different and we are introduced digitally to the Volkswagen Jetta GLI Performance Concept.

The Jetta was previously in fact the Volkswagen Golf sedan. Although the current generations of Golf and Jetta differ greatly in appearance, the Jetta still takes on the role of ‘saloon brother of the Golf’. Volkswagen only supplies the Golf in the United States as a GTI and as an R, but the Jetta also has a sporty taste. It has been called GLI since 1984 and is actually a Jetta GTI. It has a 231 hp and 350 Nm strong 2.0 TSI. This power source is optionally linked to a six-speed manual or DSG six-speed automatic transmission, and you may know it from the previous generation Golf GTI. This Jetta GLI has served as the basis for the GLI Performance Concept, which the Volkswagen Design Center in California has put together for the SEMA Show.

The Jetta GLI gets a so-called wide body measured and therefore has front and rear screens that make the sedan 2 centimeters wider on each side. The show car gets wider side skirts, a new front bumper, a modified rear bumper and very striking light metal. The Jetta GLI Performance Concept stands on 20-inch monoblock Rotiform wheels, slippers on which closed and Aerodisc so-called cover caps have been placed. The Kings Red painted sedan will get, among other things, a modified turbo, a different intake path and a modified intercooler, with which the power of the 2.0 TSI has increased to 350 hp and 508 Nm. A set of extra powerful braking from RacingLine should be able to calm the Jetta properly again. In addition, he gets a coilover that significantly reduces the distance between the bottom of the car and the road. Racing seats from Recaro? Also from the party. This Volkswagen Jetta GLI Performance Concept will not go into production, it serves purely as an attention grabber for the regular Jetta GLI.

The current generation of Volkswagen Jetta is not for sale in the Netherlands. However, its predecessor was delivered here until 2014.
