Volkswagen has presented a set of sketches of a completely new variant of the Polo. You guessed it: this version is not intended for Europe and is another example of the almost inscrutable international model range of the Volkswagen Group.
The Volkswagen Group sells various models around the world that, despite sharing their model name, can differ completely per market. The most recent example relates to the Polo. On the basis of the current Polo generation, Volkswagen is selling the Virtus in Brazil, a fairly modern-looking sedan, which shares its technology with the Polo that you can order in the Netherlands. In Russia, Volkswagen still sells a sedan version of the previous generation Polo. That car gets a successor, but it is not surprisingly replaced by the more modern Virtus.
No, Volkswagen chooses to squeeze every ruble from the old Polo platform and has therefore decided to replace the Russian Polo Sedan with its own version of the new Skoda Rapid, a liftback instead of a sedan. The new Polo ‘Sedan’ will and will remain a car that shares its technology with the previous generation Polo. The new Polo ‘Sedan’ measures 4.48 meters in length, is 1.7 meters wide and has a luggage space of 550 liters. Volkswagen hangs a completely new interior in this updated Polo version, with a separate infotainment screen on the dashboard. Apparently the car becomes available with the well-known Virtual Cockpit.
Engine adjustments are not implemented and that means that the ‘new’ Polo Sedan will be available with a 90 hp and a 110 hp 1.6. That atmospheric four-cylinder is accompanied by a 1.4 TSI. That TSI can also be connected to a DSG automatic transmission while the 1.6s are available with a manual five-speed gearbox and with a six-speed automatic transmission.
