Volkswagen Phideon tightened up

Volkswagen has presented a renewed version of its top sedan. We are talking about the Phideon, the successor to the Phaeton, which is actually a total unknown in the Netherlands.

The Geneva Motor Show in 2016 was the stage on which Volkswagen presented the Phideon, a new top sedan that in fact served as the successor to the Phaeton. Unlike the Phaeton, the Phideon never came to Europe. The sedan specially developed for the Chinese market remained purely within the Chinese borders. The more than five meter long VW has now been modernized.

The Phideon is a hefty sedan that shares its modular MLB platform with the previous-generation Audi A6. You may have to look twice to see the differences with the original launched more than four years ago, but some really small adjustments have been made. For example, the car gets sleeker-looking LED headlights, which are now optically connected by an LED strip in the grille. Not only is the LED strip illuminated, the Volkswagen logo that divides the strip into two parts is also illuminated on the Phideon. Lower on the nose we see a modified bumper, in which more chrome has been applied than before. The adjustments at the rear are also limited to the arrival of revised LED lighting and a modified bumper. From now on, the model name Phideon is written under the Volkswagen logo. Furthermore, the tailgate can now be opened and closed electronically. The other adjustments mainly concern the equipment of the model.

The Phideon, which with its wheelbase of 3,009 mm has more distance between its front and rear axles than both the short and extended Phaeton that preceded it, basically has a blown 2.0 under the hood that delivers 224 hp and 350 Nm. As before, this Phideon will not come to Europe either.
