Volkswagen sees car sales recover in China

This month, Volkswagen expects to quadruple the number of cars sold in February in China. Stephan Wöllenstein, responsible for the brand’s Chinese operations, expects to register approximately one million new vehicles.

Volkswagen is therefore “cautiously optimistic” about the recovery in China after the outbreak of the corona virus. However, the German brand takes into account a shrinkage of the Chinese market of between 3 and 15 percent. About 250,000 new cars were sold in February, of which some 18,000 were Volkswagens. Wöllenstein thinks the worst is over in two to three months.

The CEO in China expects to be able to resume the course set last year sometime in June. He confirmed in conversation with news agency Reuters that the planned investment of 4 billion euros will continue. Of this, 1.6 billion euros is reserved for electric cars.
