Volkswagen target of major Greenpeace burglary

A large group of Greenpeace activists broke into a large Volkswagen parking lot where hundreds of new cars were ready for transport. The keys to many of these cars have been stolen.

It would be about 30 to 40 activists who gave access to new Volkswagens with a combustion engine in the parking lot in Emden, Germany and who stole their keys. In a video Greenpeace traffic expert Benjamin Stephan explains that about 30 to 40 Greenpeace activists arrived on bicycles and in rubber dinghies and then broke into a Volkswagen business premises. They climbed the fences with ladders and thus gained access to the enclosed grounds. Here approximately 400 new Volkswagens were ready for transport by ship. The activists are said to have taken almost all car keys from the parked new cars. In total, according to Greenpeace, it would even be 1,500 keys.

The police arrived quickly and with the help of local forces and the Emden water police, 14 activists were arrested. The rest escaped. According to Greenpeace, Volkswagen is trying to progressively profile itself in the field of electric mobility and climate protection, but at the same time the manufacturer sells millions of combustion engines and ‘wants to further increase the share of climate-damaging SUVs’. According to the police, the damage from the action is in the tons.
