The Volkswagen Group flattens every SUV that can be beaten flat, which means that the Tiguan cannot escape a squashed rear end. This is the Tiguan X!
The Volkswagen range is at least extended in China with the Tiguan X, the coupé version of the current Tiguan. That X addition is absolutely not new for a Volkswagen Group SUV in China, as Volkswagen previously pushed down the roofline of the Tayron not available here to present the end result as Tayron X to the consumer. Now the Tiguan also undergoes this X treatment.
The Tiguan X, which can be seen in the world through Chinese media, is immediately recognizable from the front as Tiguan. For example, the muzzle almost matches that of the recently facelifted Tiguan. Of course we find the biggest changes at the rear. At the height of the B-pillar, the roofline slopes more sharply than with the known version of the SUV. At the rear we see completely new light units, which are connected by a light bar running across the entire width of the buttock. In that strip of lighting, we observe the model name Tiguan X directly under the Volkswagen logo.
The Tiguan X is almost certainly based on the Tiguan L, the variant that is known in Europe as Tiguan Allspace. The wheelbase of the Tiguan X, at 2.79 meters, therefore corresponds to that of the longer Tiguan version. After all, the regular version has a wheelbase of 2.68 meters. The new variant was developed by the SAIC-Volkswagen partnership and not by FAW-Volkswagen, Volkswagen’s second joint venture in China. FAW-Volkswagen is in turn responsible for the Tayron X. The Tiguan X is yet to appear on the Chinese market this year. It is not likely that Volkswagen will also sell the Tiguan X in Europe. Never say never.
