Volkswagen wins lawsuit against Greenpeace

The Volkswagen Group has won a much-discussed lawsuit in Germany that Greenpeace brought against the group. The organization required Volkswagen to stop selling cars that emit CO2 by 2030.

Greenpeace wanted the Volkswagen Group to do more than the EU tells the car industry to do, by stopping the sale of CO2-emitting cars as early as 2030. In the lawsuit filed in 2021, Greenpeace argued that Volkswagen violates “fundamental rights” by “continuing to market polluting cars.” The organization’s complaint fell on deaf ears at the court in Braunschweig, which acquitted the Volkswagen Group of the charges on Wednesday. That reports Bloomberg.

Although the Volkswagen Group is undoubtedly happy that this is the end of the matter for the time being, Greenpeace is not going to leave it at that. The organization would like to appeal the ruling. Greenpeace probably doesn’t have much chance of success. Earlier, a spokesman for the court in Braunschweig indicated this, giving as an example that a previous similar case against Mercedes-Benz also turned out to be fruitless.
