Atlas as Peak Edition
The Touareg is big, but it’s not Volkswagen’s largest SUV. That is the Volkswagen Atlas and it is now extra adventurous as a Peak Edition.
The Volkswagen Touareg has been discontinued in the Netherlands since 2020, but we won’t have to do without it for long. The Touareg is about to undergo a facelift and will return to the Dutch market after its freshening up. This means that the Netherlands will soon have an SUV of just under 4.9 meters in length. The Touareg is certainly not a small boy, but within the Volkswagen family it is certainly not the largest SUV. For example, Volkswagen sells the 4.94 meter long Tavendor and the no less than 5.15 meter tall Talagon in China. In between is the Volkswagen Teramont, which is also for sale in the United States and is known as Atlas there. The Atlas was presented as a Peak Edition during the New York International Auto Show, a new version that gives the SUV a more adventurous look.
Unlike the Touareg, the 5.04 meter long Atlas – which has a brother in the form of the Atlas Cross Sport with a more sloping roofline – is not on the MLB Evo platform, but on the cheaper MQB base. The new Peak Edition is inspired by the Atlas Basecamp Concept that Volkswagen presented in 2019. The recently facelifted model gets silver-colored elements at the bottom of the doors and in the front and rear bumpers and is overloaded with a handful of black details. Volkswagen gives the Atlas Peak Edition an X-shaped black mask under the grille and finishes the two upper horizontal slats in the grille in chrome. The Peak Edition stands on 18-inch alloy wheels with off-road rubber in size 255/60. The Peak Edition is available in the United States in Pure Gray and in the green called Avocado Green that you see in these photos.
