Volkswagen’s largest SUV under the knife

The first photos of the renewed Teramont, a car that American consumers know better as the Atlas, are circulating on the internet. The Teramont gets a slightly different snout than its technically almost identical brother.

Volkswagen expanded its delivery range in 2016 with an SUV parked above the Touareg in size. This five-meter long SUV was introduced to the North American as Atlas and was renamed Teramont especially for the Chinese market. The American Atlas went under the knife at the beginning of last year and the Teramont has now also clambered off the cutting table. These are the first pictures of the renewed Teramont.

The American Atlas got a pretty new muzzle during its facelift, complete with new headlights, modified bumpers and a set of new headlights. The Chinese Teramont is approached slightly differently. The Teramont, produced by the SAIV-Volkswagen joint venture, will have a flatter grille from which the brand has removed one louvre. Again, the grille optically continues into the headlights, but the shape of the headlight itself is slightly different with a drop down. Here too we see a new front bumper, although it is again a copy with a hefty skid plate. Volkswagen is installing completely new lighting at the back. The entire width of the butt runs a wide red probably reflective strip that houses new taillights. It looks like these new light units are connected to each other by means of an LED strip.
