Volkswagen’s Project Trinity: electric flagship

The ID3 and ID4 are the first in the base EV-developed models from Volkswagen, but they are certainly not the last. There is still a whole series of EV models in the barrel, including a – it says – technologically advanced flagship with working title Project Trinity.

The well-known ID3 and ID4 are the first electric models in Volkswagen’s fully electric ID family. The ID4 will probably be joined by the sportier ID5 and the more spacious ID6 this year, and production versions of study models such as the ID Space Vizzion and ID Buzz (Cargo) will be added in the coming years. At the top comes an electric flagship about which Volkswagen CEO Ralf Brandstätter releases more information. The electric top model is still going through life under the working title Project Trinity.

On his Linkedin page, Brandstätter describes a future EV as a “[…] very efficient model with iconic design. “It doesn’t make us much wiser yet. It is Project Trinity can already be seen in an image, although the intended electric top model is still under a cloth. Project Trinity seems to be topped with now known ID design and appears to have a relatively large window section. In addition, the wheels are strikingly far at the corners, although it is quite possible that this image serves purely an illustrative purpose. So take what you see with a grain of salt.

Technology

Project Trinity will be on a completely new platform intended for EVs. The EV gets one flat panel electrical platform and according to the Volkswagen CEO “[…] setting new standards in the field of range, charging speed and digitization. “So aim for the arrival of a model peppered with modern gadgets and gadgets. Promised high-tech indulgence comes in the form of hardware and software to make autonomous driving possible. At least in part, Project Trinity must be able to drive semi-autonomously (level 2), but will have the means to be able to drive autonomously at level 4 at a later stage, which means that the driver, on paper, in certain areas no longer have to pay attention to anything.

Volkswagen will produce its electric top model in Wolfsburg, although it is not yet known when the car will see the light of day exactly. Project Trinity looks set to become the Volkswagen equivalent of Audi’s Artemis, the name that brand hangs from its upcoming electric flagship set to hit the market in 2024. In any case, we do not expect the production version of Project Trinity to be on the market for that year. Whether Volkswagen wants to make life difficult with its intended newcomer cars such as the future Mercedes-Benz EQS and BMW i7 or a segment lower (EQE) is not yet clear.
