The Volvo 340 that shines today in ‘Loving Lover Wanted’ almost calls for a different name for this section. ‘Rescuer Wanted’ seems more appropriate, although you can possibly still have a nice basis for a pittance.
There are plenty of Volvo enthusiasts, only the 300 series has always had to fight hard to win that group. However, they are now old and rare enough to really be able to speak of an enthusiast’s car. There are not that many left for sale and yet there are copies that are much nicer than this gray one from 1992. So why do we choose this one? Well, simply because this one is really at the mercy of an enthusiast.
We wouldn’t be surprised if this 340 has already been nominated for a spot on the scrapyard. Based on the photos, we conclude that some (somewhat provisional) welding has already taken place and, moreover, the provider reports that the car is currently not running and no longer has a valid MOT. It is suspected that the fuel pump is the culprit. Fortunately, the 1.4 in the nose of this Lower Swede is not a dragon to work on, so who knows, it might be easy to get the animal to simmer again.
Except for the tipped spot just behind the left front wheel (and the one on the front bumper), the 340 doesn’t look so bad yet. The interior also looks quite neat. Then there’s the mileage, 117,000 km, but also the fact that it has only had two owners in its thirty years of existence. All in all, not such a crazy basis to make something out of. The price suggests that it does need some attention: €950 is being asked for it. With a little love and some skill you may have a nice 340 for relatively next to nothing. After all, a good and driving copy now costs just €2,500 to €3,000. Who’s keeping this piece of history on the road?
