Volvo 850 (1995) – Enthusiast Wanted

Not even broken in yet

Volvo 850 (1995) – Enthusiast Wanted

You probably know what is said about older Volvos with half a million on the odometer. Well, this copy hasn’t even been ‘just broken in’ yet. You don’t see that often.

According to some enthusiasts, a Volvo from the last century only really belongs if it has about 4 or 5 tons on the odometer. Well, in that case, this 28 year old 850 is a bit cowardly, with its 196,000 km. “The running-in oil is still in there,” we hear the provider joke. In any case, there are quite a few (sometimes somewhat exaggerated) advantages to be had with around 850. It owes its relatively indestructible status not only to the five-cylinder that is considered solid, but also to the idea that with a Volvo from this era you can drive through the facade of a house with only minor damage to the exterior.

It looks like this has never been tried before with this Volvo 850. However, this copy is not without some scrapes, as can clearly be seen in a few photos in the advertisement. Typical scars of a Volvo of that age, we would say. Too bad, but not entirely insurmountable. In general, the car still looks fresh, especially when you consider what most 850s now look like. A big plus in our opinion is the beautiful black color of the plastic accents. You often see that differently.

The relatively low mileage and the fact that no one ever thought it was worth installing a new audio system suggest that we are dealing with a car with few previous owners. However, that does not appear to be entirely the case. The Volvo has had seven private owners in its 28 years of existence. Furthermore, it has not belonged to a private individual in five years. We would have liked to see something different. It may be a Volvo 850, but we still recommend that you delve into its history, if some documentation is available. For just under €4,500 (I’m sure there’s room for improvement), the Swede is probably worth a look.
