The moose test follows

The Volvo EX90 does not remain the only electric Volvo on the new SPA2 platform. On the same basis, there will also be a sedan, a kind of electric S90 successor, the first of which has already been produced, as shown in this photo.
‘Next year over and out for Volvo sedans’, we headlined a few months ago. At least for the existing sedans, because Volvo is certainly not saying goodbye to the four-door body shape. A real limousine will soon appear on the SPA2 base, which also houses the new, large Volvo EX90. What’s that car called? The logic suggests ‘ES90’ and that is also what the Swedish Teknikens Värld assumes. That Swedish medium once became world famous with a failed moose test of the first Mercedes A-class now dives smoothly a photo of the first Volvo EX90 ever produced.
We don’t actually learn much from that, because the car is covered by a cloth and therefore cannot be seen at all. The big news is that this car is coming, and that it will be referred to internally as V551. Production took place in China. That is not surprising, because China still has a lively market for long limousines and the S90 was already produced there. Development of the new EV reportedly took place in both China and Sweden. Teknikens Värld even has all the necessary details about the newcomer. The Volvo ES90 is reportedly 4.99 meters long, 1.55 meters high and 1.95 meters wide. It is therefore longer than the S90 that we are used to in Europe (4.96 meters), but slightly shorter than the 5.08 meter long Volvo S90L that was also available here. However, the wheelbase undoubtedly makes up for any loss of space: the front and rear axles of the ES90 are reportedly 3.10 meters apart, compared to 3.06 meters for the S90L.
The documents that the Swedish press has obtained would also shed light on the technical specifications of the Volvo ES90. In that respect too, the car would share a lot with the EX90, for example its battery of net 107 kWh. In the lower car this logically results in a greater driving range, although no figures are yet known about this. We do not know at this time whether and how the ES90 will also be available in Europe.
