Volvo recalls a large group of cars because the AEB system would not work flawlessly. Almost the entire model range is affected.
The Automatic Emergency Brakesystem must ensure that cars apply the brakes on their own if an object suddenly appears in front of the car. This can make all the difference, especially with suddenly crossing pedestrians or other looming obstacles. Provided it works, then again. Since this week, the RDW has a recall in her recall register stand, for the Volvo’s S60, V60, V60 Cross Country, S90, V90, V90 Cross Country, XC40, XC60 and XC90. With all those models, the AEB system may not work properly.
The RDW describes the defect as follows: “The Automatic Emergency Brakesystem may not work as intended in certain situations and at certain temperatures. The AEB system does not automatically brake the car as intended in emergency situations for certain objects, pedestrians and cyclists “The Collision Warning system will provide the driver with warning sound and light indication and braking assistance for pedestrians and cyclists.” The owners of the cars in question will be notified of the recall by letter, according to the central government. New software should fix the problem.
It is currently not clear how many cars are involved in the Netherlands, but it seems that it concerns the most recent generation of these models. Worldwide, nearly 750,000 cars are reportedly part of the recall. Techzle is awaiting further clarification from Volvo Netherlands.
