Volvo wants to reach number 5 position in the Netherlands with EX30

Goal: EX30 at least number 1 EV

Volvo wants to reach number 5 position in the Netherlands with EX30

It is almost inevitable that the Volvo EX30 will have a glorious career in the Netherlands. At Volvo itself, they know this too, and are aiming for a significantly higher position in the sales rankings by 2024.

Volvo is in 10th place in the Dutch sales rankings so far this year. Not bad at all – and better than last year – but it has to be better. The Swedish brand thinks it can finish in fifth position next year. For the sake of clarity: the top 5 currently consists of Volkswagen, Kia, Toyota, Peugeot and Renault.

The fact that Volvo dares to aim for fifth place is of course largely due to this the new Volvo EX30. This compact electric SUV has prices between roughly 37,000 and 53,000 euros, which can safely be called affordable in the country of ‘premium’ electric SUVs. Moreover, the larger and more expensive XC40 has already amply demonstrated that the Dutch love compact Volvo SUVs, with or without electric drive. In 2021, the XC40 was already temporarily number one and finished in second place, right after the Kia Niro. Volvo as a brand finished in 9th place that year, so that 5th place for a Volvo with the EX30 does not seem like an unrealistic dream.

According to the same predictions, the EX30 as a model should become at least the most popular EV in the Netherlands. However, it does not stop there, because there are also hopeful whispers about its position as the most popular car in the Netherlands – of all drivetrains. In all cases, the good news for Volvo is that about 80 percent of EX30 buyers are expected to come from other brands. The car therefore only steals sales from other Volvos to a limited extent, and this is reflected in the first results. The EX30 has been available to order since June, but according to Volvo, this has not yet led to a significant decline in sales of the XC40 and C40.

However, Volvo’s positive view of the near future in the Netherlands is not only due to the arrival of the EX30. The brand reports that after the previous shortages and extended delivery times, the order portfolio is still well filled, so that many Volvos of other, larger types are guaranteed to be delivered next year.
