Volvo will launch an electric crossover in 2023

During the presentation of the new electric Volvo EX90, the brand indicated that from now on it would present a new electric model every year. In 2023 Volvo seems to come with a compact electric crossover.

In Stockholm it is the electric Volvo EX90 that attracts attention, but during the presentation of that new SUV more interesting news passed by in a flash. Volvo briefly showed the silhouette of another brand new and as yet unknown model.

Volvo indicated at the presentation of the EX90 that from now on it will come up with a new EV every year. It looks like the newcomer shown in a flash is the next electric car Volvo will add to its portfolio. We seem to be dealing with a compact crossover, a car that gets EX90-like taillights, although the light parts next to the rear window are not segmented.

If Volvo actually comes with a compact crossover, then that can be called quite special. Currently, the XC40 is an entry-level model, before that it was the V40. The predecessor of that V40 was the significantly shorter C30, which was always carried out as a three-door, but which Volvo also operated in the C-segment. A Volvo in the compact middle class is unique for Volvo in any case. If we speculate further and discuss the ‘model name’ heading, we expect that the newcomer may be called XC20. Currently, there are always twenty or thirty numbers in the model names of Volvo’s long-legged (XC40, XC60 and XC90). XC10 may sound ‘too low’, which makes us suspect that Volvo is going for model name XC20. The ‘Volvo EX20’ could compete with cars such as the Peugeot e-2008, DS 3 E-tense and the forthcoming Mini Aceman.

Next year we will no doubt find out more about Volvo’s upcoming new electric model.
