Volvo makes the XC40 a bit more economical. A mild-hybrid engine version will be added and the already existing B4 Mild-Hybrid will be modified.
Volvo is making a technical adjustment to the only mild-hybrid petrol version of the XC40 to date: the B4. The petrol engine of the B4, a 2.0 four-cylinder, now runs via the Miller cycle. That provides the XC40 B4 with lower consumption and faster sprint figures. The still 197 hp strong B4 from now on sprints to 100 km/h in 7.4 instead of 8.4 counts.
In an internal combustion engine running on the Miller cycle, the intake valve closes early and the intake pressure is increased, resulting in a higher compression ratio. The engine is coupled to a new seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, which is derived from the gearbox from the XC40 Recharge Plug-in Hybrid. The starting price of the B4 remains unchanged at €50,995. The XC40 is also available with four-wheel drive.

More interesting is the arrival of a completely new powertrain: the B3. The B3 is a second mild-hybrid powertrain that replaces the outgoing T3 with 1.5 three-cylinder. Like the B4, the B3 has a 2.0 four-cylinder that runs according to the Miller principle. Like the 1.5 of the T3, the block is 163 hp and 265 Nm strong, although it is assisted by a 14 hp and 40 Nm mild hybrid system. In addition, the maximum power and torque are also released at a lower speed. Therefore, the 1,800 kg B3 sprints to 100 km/h in 8.4 seconds, while the 200 kg lighter T3 it replaces took 9.6 seconds for the same sprint. The B3 is also linked to Volvo’s renewed seven-speed automatic transmission with double clutch. The average consumption of the B3 is 6.7 l/100 km, the T3 guzzled 7.3 liters of petrol per 100 kilometers. The starting price of the XC40 B3 is €45,595.
The XC40 T2 with 129 hp 1.5 three-cylinder is now the last engine version that you can still get in the XC40 with a manual gearbox. The starting price of the XC40 as a T2 is €38,995.
