Volvo will now offer software updates for the electric Volvo XC40 Recharge P8 AWD in ‘Over The Air’ form, so without a workshop visit. That is not very surprising, because the technically identical Polestar 2 followed the same path before.
Over The Air (OTA) updates are inextricably linked to the electric car, although it is of course technically possible for any car with an internet connection. Tesla invented the concept and made it big, but as in many areas, many car manufacturers in OTA are happy to follow in the footsteps of the innovative Americans.
The big rival of the Tesla Model 3, the Polestar 2, was recently turned. While Polestar drivers from the very beginning had to go to the dealer for an update, now it is done with a tap on the screen. In the form of the XC40 P8, Volvo has a car that is technically identical to the electric car of its sister brand, so it is only logical that the same applies to the XC40 now.
More reach
The first update for the XC40 includes updates for the Android Automotive infotainment system, but also a better charging speed. The software-based fine grinding should provide even more driving range, while relative trifles such as the Bluetooth connectivity, timers for climate control and the 360-degree camera are also held up to the light. XC40 P8 riders will receive an update request if all goes well automatically on the central screen.
