Vredestein comes with a special four-season tire for EVs

Dutch tire manufacturer Vredestein will soon release a four-season tire specially developed for EVs. The Vredestein Quatrac Pro EV should, among other things, be favorable for the driving range and at the same time offer optimal grip.

Tires for EVs have to meet somewhat more expectations than regular tires due to the often higher weight of the car and the focus on driving range. With that in mind, Vredestein has started working on a special four-season tire for EVs. This Quatrac Pro EV tire will be on the market in December, according to Vredestein it is a first. According to the company, it is the first dedicated all-season tire for EVs.

Vredestein has used its own Quatrac Pro tire as a reference for the Quatrac Pro EV tire. There are, of course, clear differences between the two. For example, the profile of the EV tire is different; the longitudinal grooves have steeper ‘flanks’ to offer more resistance when cornering. Much needed to handle the higher weight of EVs without too much loss of grip. Efforts have also been made to ensure the lowest possible rolling resistance, lighter material has been used for the interior to save weight and the sidewalls of the tire are thinner than usual.

All in all, it should give the tire a good compromise between grip, comfort and efficiency. According to Vredestein, the range of an EV is improved by this special band. Very promising, as Vredestein came second in the AutoWeek all-season tire test last year with its regular Quatrac Pro four-season tire. Curious about this year’s tires? Then keep an eye on AutoWeek in the coming weeks. The tire tests of 2022 are coming up in the magazine as well as on the site. In AutoWeek 44, which is now in stores, you will already find the winter tire test.
