In Amsterdam, the VVD group has asked to lower parking fees and permits for owners of an electric car.
With parking rates that are skyrocketing, Amsterdam is trying to make the city center less attractive for cars. However, the VVD wants to make it a bit more attractive for some car owners, because the Amsterdam fraction is arguing for lower parking costs for owners of an electric car. That reports AT5.
The VVD is doing this after State Secretary Stientje van Veldhoven of Infrastructure and Water Management submitted a bill last month. That proposal states that municipalities should be able to give ‘discounts’ for EV drivers. The Amsterdam faction was then rightly informed that it was interested in this new law, but asked written questions about it again yesterday. “The Amsterdam VVD prefers such a ‘positive’ incentive to ‘punishing’ diesel and petrol car owners,” states councilor Anne Marttin. Earlier, Marttin said that he was in favor of a reduction of fifty percent.
The councilor is now asking the city council to investigate whether such a measure will cause more residents to switch to an EV and would like to have them investigated how much discount is needed to get residents over the line.
