Ford is working on a brand new electric SUV that will compete with cars like the Volkswagen ID4 and Skoda Enyaq. Incidentally, he also shares his MEB base with it. The newcomer can now be seen better than ever.

Ford is scrapping the Fiesta, the Mondeo is no longer there and the Focus is not going to last long either. What should become of the brand in Europe? Well, an electrical offensive is coming to absorb the loss. For example, there is an electric Puma in the barrel and two more completely new electric high-legs are arriving. However, both will not be placed on a new basis, but on Volkswagen’s MEB platform. One of the two SUVs was spotted for the first time last month and is now resurfacing.

This is the model with the more conventional approach of the two. A mid-range SUV with fairly traditional proportions, this car may have to make up for the lack of the Mondeo and eventually the Focus. It is even better to see in these new photos that the Ford is not a radically different designed car than the SUVs of the Volkswagen Group mentioned. The way in which the window line rises slightly towards the C-pillar and then drops down again, is even strongly reminiscent of the ID4. However, the as yet unnamed Ford as a whole is a bit more angular and ‘American’ in shape, with the fairly blunt nose and high bonnet. Earlier teaser images already made it clear that the Ford also gets somewhat larger headlights.

Technically, the Ford will probably hold few surprises. Count on comparable hardware as with the Volkswagen ID4 and Skoda Enyaq. There is a good chance that there will also be a 299 hp top version, although it may remain reserved for the somewhat sportier-lined brother of this model. That other member of the Ford MEB pair may bear the name Capri and, in addition to a somewhat smoother roofline, will also have a somewhat different nose.

In AutoWeek 7, which will be in stores from Wednesday 15 February, we will discuss this new electric Ford in detail.
