W Series will be part of the Dutch Grand Prix

The W Series will be a Formula 1 support race at the Dutch Grand Prix at Circuit Zandvoort, the organization announced. This means that the relatively new women’s class will compete in eight of the 23 F1 races next year. Dutch driver Beitske Visser, who finished second in the racing class last year, is happy to compete for victory in her home country next year.

The Dutch Grand Prix will be held in the weekend from 3 to 5 September next year. It is the first time since 1985 that the premier class of motorsport returns to the Netherlands. During the weekend it is not just about Formula 1. According to the organization, the Dutch Grand Prix will be a ‘racing festival’ where several rankings will take action. The W Series has now been added to that. It is not yet known at what point in the program the W Series will start running.

Beitske Visser is in any case already enthusiastic. “I secretly hoped the W Series would choose Zandvoort,” she says. “Most fans come mainly for Max, of course, but I hope they also support me a bit. I will definitely go for the win in 2021 and hope that with a victory I will contribute to this Orange party.” Jan Lammers, sports director of the Dutch Grand Prix, is also enthusiastic. “The W Series is the highest podium for women in motorsport and should therefore not be missing in our program. Great that our Dutch star Beitske Visser is active in this class. An enrichment for our event.”

The cars in the W Series are comparable to those in Formula 3. It is a Tatuus-Alfa Romeo F3 T-318 with a 1.8-liter four-cylinder turbo engine from Alfa Romeo on board, which has been tuned to 270 hp by Autotecnica Motori . The cars weigh only 565 kg, so it’s no secret that it wants to move forward. Precise figures are not known, but 0-100 km / h takes about 3 seconds and the cars reach a top speed of about 260 km / h, depending on the track.
