Want to buy Hyundai Ioniq 5? Wait a little longer, then it has a larger range

The Hyundai Ioniq 5 is one of the best electric cars on the market, along with its brother Kia EV6. With its 73 kWh battery, the Korean crossover has a range of up to 481 kilometers. But if you wait a few more months, you will soon be able to buy an Ioniq 5 with a range of more than 500 kilometers.

The Hyundai Ioniq 5 is available in two versions: with a 58 kWh battery (range: 384 kilometers) and with a 73 kWh battery (range: 481 kilometers). But where the car really scores in the now quite busy electric SUV/crossover market, it is its payload. With the right fast charger, it reaches a speed of 225 kW, which means that its battery is already 80 percent full within 20 minutes.

But there will be another version of the Ioniq 5. It will debut on the market in the summer and will receive a 77.4 kWh battery pack. What that does to the range, Hyundai does not yet say, but you can safely assume that it will end up above 500 kilometers. The model also gets a number of novelties, such as preheating the battery for optimal charging and so-called Smart Frequency Dampers for more comfort and better driving characteristics.

Digital exterior mirrors don’t add much

Interesting – or actually not – is the addition of digital exterior mirrors. They reduce air resistance and show their images on small displays on the inside of the front doors. The Audi E-Tron, Honda E and Lexus ES have been available with cameras as door mirrors for some time now. We don’t think it adds anything at all. However, the Ioniq 5 also gets a – useful – digital interior mirror, which gives you an unobstructed view to the rear.
