Watch and listen: Bugatti replaces W16 with V16!

Will it be a V12? Will it be a V8, will it be electric? None of that, as it turns out today: the successor to the Bugatti Chiron will have 16 cylinders as usual, albeit now in a V-arrangement and with hybrid support. We can already listen to it now.

Those who miss the large combustion engine, now that even a Mercedes-AMG C 63 has a four-cylinder, are amply compensated today. Bugatti officially confirms that future Bugattis will also have no fewer than sixteen cylinders on board. That is quite a surprise, because the brand previously spoke of a V8. The new model does not get a W16, but a V16, and therefore has a more traditional arrangement of the cylinders. The fact that it says goodbye to the W engine is neither news nor surprising in itself. The farewell to the W power source has already been announced and the W principle is also unique to Volkswagen, which has more or less withdrawn its hands from Bugatti. Bugatti is now more than half of the Croatian Rimac and a small part of Porsche, and together the two have apparently just come up with a new crazy drivetrain.

From Cadillac from 1940 to hybrid in 2024

The return of the V16 is quite a moment. As far as we know, the last time a V16 was delivered in a production car was at Cadillac in 1940. Bugatti not only lets us see the new V16, but also hear it immediately. At the end of the video below you can hear him roar. ‘But’, we hear you think in alarm, ‘does Bugatti have no regard for the environment at all’? Don’t worry, reader: the V16 is linked to electrical technology and the new Bugatti is therefore a real hybrid.

Want to see more of the unique car? The tension remains manageable for this too: Bugatti will unveil the completely new model this year.
