The corona virus presents many companies with challenges – especially smaller companies fear for their existence. A baker shows how stressful the situation is for many people with a touching video on Instagram. The baker himself is also criticized.
So that the corona virus does not spread even faster, one thing above all applies: stay at home. This has an impact on the economy: people shop less and use less services. For many companies, the lack of income threatens their existence.
A baker from Hanover draws attention to this problem in an Instagram video. Gerhard Bosselmann tells in tears what the current situation means for him as an independent baker: “We need a certain minimum turnover, otherwise our company will die after six to eight weeks.”
“The middle class is dropped.”
The federal government has already adopted some measures, such as short-time work benefits, to help threatened companies. However, such help has not yet arrived, says Bosselmann. “The middle class is dropped, it is a disaster. We have to help ourselves. And you as our customers can help us and stay with us in bad times. ”
His appeal is therefore: “Go to your bakery around the corner, […] because you save jobs. […] We are all scared to death about our jobs. ”In the video, Bosselmann keeps fighting tears. He has already had to close ten branches, but he doesn’t know what will happen next.
More than five million views on Instagram
At the end of this, the baker thanks the employees in the health service. From now on you can get baked goods for free in his branches, he says visibly emotionally. Bosselmann ends his video with this sentence: “In a world where you can be anything be kind.” (“In a world where you can be anything, be kind.” “
The video went viral over the weekend: it was viewed more than five million times on Instagram alone. Even some celebrities and influencers have left comments. However, there is also criticism: A picture of a letter appeared on Twitter that the entrepreneur had addressed to his employees – and contains some not very good instructions.
Sickness reports only with corona test
“Sickness reports for colds without fever are only accepted with the corona test,” the letter says. Otherwise there would be no wages. “I am determined to transfer or lay off employees if there are reasonable doubts.” Those who do not take the corona crisis and the ban on contacts seriously also face termination without notice.
Bosselmann has already decided on the letter voiced. He told the “Spiegel” that he had made a mistake in the tone. “I was just angry and, above all, worried.” An employee asked him if he still had to come to work after a “corona party”. There was one person at the party who tested positive for Corona. Bosselmann then wrote the letter with the threats.
Utopia thinks: The video and the questionable instructions from Bosselmann show: the nerves are blank. Many entrepreneurs are currently in the same situation as the baker. Bosselmann is doing even better than his colleagues from other industries: his branches are still open. Many companies from non-systemically important areas had to close – and are now not making any income at all. How to support vulnerable companies:
- Shop at the small grocery store, bakery, fruit market or deli in your area.
- Use online offers, for example from sports studios.
- Buy vouchers that you can redeem after the crisis.
- Many smaller bookstores offer a delivery service. Order books there.
