We have come across these regularly in the house the last few days. What kind of beetle is this and should we fight it?

Answer
Hi John,
This is a weevil (family Curculionidae). There are many species, all herbivores that are quite specialized: each species only lives on one or a limited number of plants. I suspect there is a tree in your area that is the host plant for this weevil. So no cause for concern.
Kind regards,
Rudy
