That 2 points to a subdivision in blood group A. There are further subdivisions within blood group A and B depending on the structures on the surface of the red blood cell. With A you have A1, A2, A3, Ax and Am. So you can no longer really speak of blood group “A”, since people with blood group A1 can react to blood from people with blood group A2 and vice versa.
