SUV = Sports Utility Vehicle. It is the American name for what we usually call 4×4. So these are the luxury jeeps that you see a lot on the street these days. They are usually large vehicles with a heavy engine and often four-wheel drive. They give a sporty impression but are not really made for off-road use.
